Helmer Krane is a German politician and in-house legal expert specializing in European affairs, state aid law and foreign subsidies, with international experience.

He serves as a member of the Federal Executive Board of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and as Deputy State Chair of the FDP in Schleswig-Holstein. He coordinates and leads the party’s European-level delegation, shaping policy positions and fostering international cooperation. He was one of the lead candidates of the FDP in both the 2019 and 2024 European Parliament elections.

Beyond his legal career, Krane is a prominent voice in European policy debates, advocating for freedom and sustainable development. He is a member of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) and has been an early and consistent advocate for robust European support for Ukraine in response to Russia’s war of aggression.
