Ms. Berit Lindeman is the Secretary General of the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, where she is primarily responsible for the organization’s work on human rights in Europe.

With more than 20 years of experience in democracy-building and human rights, Ms. Lindeman has worked extensively across Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia, as well as on assignments in Asia and Africa. She has significant expertise in international election observation and has served as an election expert, with a strong commitment to the principles of individual participation, co-determination, and free and fair elections.

Throughout her career, she has worked with most of the Committee’s core countries, with particular responsibility for Azerbaijan and Belarus. She has also led the organization’s communications efforts for many years.

Ms. Lindeman holds a law degree with a specialization in foreign law and has studied Russian and French. She has lived for extended periods in Ukraine, France, and Russia, and most recently spent three years in Mali, West Africa.
